Adding Insulation To Injury - Or Just The Inside Of My Van

Everything with this build starts off with "oh this can't be that hard, right?". It's a great mentality to have buy I quickly learn that these projects are a lot more tedious than they appear. My plan with the interior of the van wasn't too crazy; install insulation and then cover that with 3/8" wood walls, then cover the walls with a canvas material. Can't be that hard right?

Next stop, Home Depot. Three eight-foot sheets of Rmax Thermasheath, three cans of 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive, and some rubbing alcohol and we were off to the races.

The goal was to lay insulation between each one of the vertical spars that line the inside of the Chevy Express Vans. These spars run about every two feet from floor to ceiling. The 4x8 sheets of insulation made easy measurements to trim and fit precisely in between said spars.

I used the rubbing alcohol to clean the metal surface of the van where the insulation would sit and applied thick coats of the 3M adhesive to both the van wall and the insulation itself. Be sure to wait a minute or so for the adhesive to get tacky before bonding the adhesive to the walls.

I'm writing this a few months down the road from installing my van insulation. Proud to announce that my homemade hack-job has had no major issues. I read that the foam insulation can squeak and creak over time but since I secured my walls over the foam core I have yet to have an issue. Fingers crossed and happy trails!
